ANTOINE MARGUIER APPOINTED RESIDENT CONDUCTOR OF ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE LYON

Conductor Antoine Marguier has been appointed Resident Conductor of the Orchestre National de Lyon (ONL) following an international search. He was the unanimous choice of a jury notably composed of orchestra members.
Antoine Marguier will appear at the podium conducting the Orchestre National de Lyon in subscription concerts on October 6th, 8th and 9th, 2010 (in a program of Dvorak and Bruch) and on April 14th and 16th, 2011 (featuring works by Stravinsky), as well as other projects during the season. He previously led the orchestra on several occasions as a guest conductor in 2008.
Marguier will also conduct the ONL’s Academy, taking advantage of his strengths as conductor, instrumentalist and teacher. The Academy is a unique program which gathers young musicians from Lyon and the French Alpine regions with the aim of improving students' orchestral skills, in close collaboration with the musicians of the ONL. Marguier will design the programs and conduct both orchestras of the Academy during the concert season. Each orchestra comprises eighty passionate and dedicated members. The ONL Academy orchestras will present performances in mid-November 2010 and again in February and May 2011. Marguier also teaches chamber music at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève as well as leads the orchestra of the Conservatoire de Musique de la Ville (CMgo), composed of conservatory alumni and professors.
Marguier has been invited as a guest conductor with such prestigious ensembles as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Orchestre de l'Opéra de Marseille, Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, Nizaa Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, and the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa. He has also conducted the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (OSR), Orchestre des Jeunesses Musicales de Suisse, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, and the Ensemble Paul Klee in Berne. He regularly collaborates with the Ensemble Contemporain Contrechamps, and with the Sinfonietta de Lausanne, which he led on a tour to China. Marguier is also co-founder, together with comedian Joan Mompart, of the Compagnie du Rossignol, a performing ensemble of actors and OSR soloists. His most recent engagements include tours in China at the head of the Orchestre de la Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève, and performances with the Ensemble Asko-Schönberg of Amsterdam in a production of the Théatre de la Monnaie (The House of the sleeping beauties by Kris Defoort).
Antoine Marguier was clarinettist under the direction of Claudio Abbado and Vladimir Ashkenazy with the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester, and has been a member of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, where he was first engaged by Armin Jordan. He has also served as Assistant Conductor to Jesus Lopez-Cobos with the Orchestre Français des Jeunes.
