United Nations Orchestra – Concert en faveur de l’éducation en Sierra Leone – 16 mars 2012
Our CONCERT DE PRINTEMPS at the Victoria Hall on 16 March will raise funds for Education for All in Sierra Leone, a charity that created and supports the only school serving 250 children from four deprived villages in the isolated Masantigie area of Sierra Leone.

The school is growing and funds are urgently needed to pay for teachers’ salaries, the running costs of the school, and to provide 15 scholarships for the current Class 6 students – especially girls – for secondary school education. The cost to support a student is US$100 per school year.

By attending Concert de Printemps you will be helping the children of Masantigie to receive that most precious gift – an education. You will also hear glorious works by Beethoven and Dvorak to gladden the heart, with three international virtuoso soloists joining the orchestra for a performance of Beethoven’s elegant Triple Concerto.

Tribute to Maestro Kurt Sanderling

Dear Maestro Sanderling,

Outstanding, even amongst the greatest conductors, you left your mark on all those who had the chance of playing under your baton. I was fortunate to be one of them, as a young solo clarinetist of the European Union Youth orchestra, and you were one of the first to ignite the sparks of my own desire to become a conductor. I loved the way you embraced the orchestra, transmitting with such ease and clarity, the strength of your feelings. The exceptional priority which you dedicated to musical discourse and especially to its poetry, was the hallmark of your approach to music. You were a great artist, discrete, respectful and humble.
